Discover Sensors

Discover Sensors is designed to provide students of the Junior Science syllabus with the experience of “real science” in the classroom. Gathering data is a common feature of the practical work undertaken in a school science laboratory. Sensors can enhance this process by gathering data quickly and recording it accurately, whether in the classroom, science lab or on a field trip.

The programme is led by Discover Science & Engineering in partnership with the Junior Science Support Service, the National Centre for Technology in Education and the Education Centre Network.

Discover Sensors is supported by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, and has been taken up by over 190 schools across Ireland.

What they asked us to do

Discover Sensors required a website that would introduce teachers to the benefits that sensors could bring to the science classroom or laboratory.

As well as presenting a range of background information, the website at certain times of the year allows interested teachers to register for training days being organised around the country.

A secure area for registered teachers and tutors to share information was created and has formed the basis for an active network of online information sharing. This has been handled through the integration of a forum [based on the bbPress engine] and a custom-built knowledgebase.

Content on the website is updated frequently with articles of interest to students and teachers. A quarterly eNewsletter is published with the latest news from the programme.

Back-office administration of the programme’s registrants is handled through our CRM.
