Ecocem’s story is an interesting one. Although their business is based on one of the world’s most environmentally unfriendly products – cement - their technology could one day save up to 89 million tonnes of CO2 per annum.

The company established emissionzero.ie to reduce the Carbon Footprint of consumers and business in Ireland, enabling them to become Carbon Neutral through investing in Verified Emission Reductions (VERs).

What they asked us to do

The key focus to the emissionzero.ie website is the Carbon Calculator that allows users to calculate how much it will cost to offset a range of day-to-day activities ... from driving a car to lighting a fire.

We realised that this wouldn’t be the first Carbon Calculator developed for the web. So we set out to try and make it the best by incorporating an intuitive design, user-friendly controls and a streamlined checkout process. Cleverly structured pages of content complement the overall site.

Project Highlights

A specific highlight was the integration of a third party data service to handle the air travel section of the Carbon Calculator. TRX’s Travel Analytics web service is regarded as being the most comprehensive and topical dataset containing the carbon emissions of the world’s air carriers. Its integration to emissionzero.ie is the first time that it has been utilised on a European website.
