Discover Primary Science

Discover Primary Science is a flagship project run by the Discover Science & Engineering (DSE) awareness programme. DSE is managed by Forfás on behalf of the Office of Science & Technology at the Department of Enterprise Trade & Employment. The programme aims to develop creativity in our children, show them how important science is to our everyday lives and more importantly how much fun it can be!

What they asked us to do

Xwerx has managed the development of the primaryscience.ie website since 2005. In doing so, we have created a content-rich website that serves as the focal point for the Discover Primary Science Programme. Visited by up to 10,000 users a month, the website is now a treasure trove of science-based games and activities for young primary school children.

With over 3,500 teachers now registered on the Programme, Xwerx has also developed an online, back-office system that allows DSE personnel to manage the daily administration of the Programme. New registrations, award applications and reporting functions are all handled through this secure system, freeing up DSE staff to manage the continued growth of the Programme.

Client Feedback

“Xwerx has been our web partner on primaryscience.ie since 2005. Year on year, they approach us with new ideas and creative solutions that help to maintain the quality of the website and ensure the continued success of the Programme. They are passionate about their work and this shows in everything they have done for us. It was no surprise to any of the team that the website won the Education Category in the 2007 eGovernment Awards.”Caroline Mooney, Programme Manager, Discover Primary ScienceVisit www.primaryscience.ie

Project Highlights

The strength of primaryscience.ie lies in its rich and regularly updated content. Every two months during school term, Xwerx publishes a new Flash-based science activity and a colourful Newsletter for registered teachers participating on the Programme. Interactive games, a dynamic photo and video gallery and an Ask Molly section also ensure that the site remains sticky throughout the year.
